Iranian police will say she died of a heart attack but here's the truth...

Mahsa Amini was a 22 year old iranian woman who was murdered in Iran on September 13, 2022 because the local Iranian govenrment officials did not think she adhered enough to the strict dress code imposed on women. She was in Tehran with her brother and was arrested and transferred to the “morality police” because they said she was wearing her hijab improperly. (It is important to note that hijabs are mandatory for women to wear in public in Iran, along with other conservative islamic wear.) They told her brother that she was being taken somewhere for a class on how to wear her headscarf correctly. The Iranian government says that she made it to the center but then suffered from a heart attack and died three days later. However, her family says that she was beaten up by men in the car that supposedly was taking her to the class and she died three days later actually due to severe head trauma. Mahsa’s father wasn’t even allowed to see her comatose body in the hospital but by chance saw a glimpse of her bruised foot.
On September 17th protests began all over Iran led by women who urged for the hijab laws be less restrictive and overall for less discrimination agsint women. The iranian authorities have had a brutal response to this, they have used force, guns, metal pellets, and tear gas. In the past 10 days it has been reported that there have been at least 30 deaths and 1,200 arrests.
Recently, authorities have also taken action to restrict internet access until the issue is dealt with. Before that, many young women on social media have urged the globe to “be their voices” while they struggle to combat the Iranian forces. One even talked about a twenty year old girl who passed away after getting shot six times after wanting to join the protest.
Their voices were heard, globally. Protests have broken out in the United States in major cities like New York and San Francisco or even locally. The United Nations is also launching a private investigation to find out the real reason for Mahsa's death.
Clearly most of western civilization supports the women of Iran and we can hope that this is the beginning of something big. However, it is disheartening to watch how the simple desire to show one’s face (a female face) can be met with such anger and violence by men to use their religion and power to subjugate and abuse women. Women are dying for the right to just live without covering their head and body in garments mandated by a male-dominated government. It's 2022, not 1022. The world needs to do better.

DIVARITY FOUNDATION is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
DIVARITY = Diversity + Parity
Diversity means including everyone: any race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. Parity means the state or condition of being equal. Together they are Divarity. We created Divarity to change the way the world views the contributions of women to society - we want to spread awareness about women in history who have impacted the United States and the rest of the world. In order to achieve equality in both sexes, change needs to start in the education system.
